Vernon Harkins embarked on his musical journey at the tender age of five, driven by a desire to guide and mentor aspiring musicians towards success. His wife has played a pivotal role as a source of inspiration and unwavering support. With an extensive teaching experience spanning over 26 years, his aspiration materialized in 2017 with the establishment of Cornerstone Academy of music, enriching the local community. To date, Vernon has imparted his knowledge to more than 500 students, many of whom have flourished into accomplished musicians beyond foundational levels.
While Mr. Vernon is deeply passionate about music, he also values spending quality time with his family. His daughters are the joy of his life. Mr. Harkins finds MUSE in playing the piano and B3 Organ. When he is not teaching or honing his musical skills, he delights in listening to Christian music, contemporary gospel, and appreciating the outdoors.
Olivia Huckaby is an educator with nearly 15 years of musical experience and education. Growing up in Russia and China, she has traveled extensively across Asia. She loves worshipping in church and sharing her passion for piano and music with her students.
Olivia teaches piano from beginner to early advanced levels, for students age 3 and up. While piano is her primary instrument, she also teaches beginning voice students. Since 2014, she has taught children in church and school settings, adapting her methods to each student’s needs.
Olivia customizes education to fit the goals of both students and parents. She integrates music history and theory into lessons,
focusing on classical and sacred music while incorporating various styles. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes tailoring education to the student and using diverse practice tools to turn challenges into achievable goals.

The guitar serves as a crucial rhythm instrument. Students will achieve the skills of reading music, playing chords, and interpreting tablature.
The piano serves as the foundation for numerous musical styles. Students will learn to read music, play using chord charts and lead sheets. Additionally, music theory and ear training are incorporated into your skill development.
The violin, with a history spanning over 500 years, is renowned in various music genres. Students will be taught correct bowing and string techniques, in addition to reading music.
The voice is utilized in all genres of music globally. Students will be taught correct breathing and singing methods.

Playing bass guitar improves rhythmic understanding, groove, and melodic expression. It anchors the band's rhythm section, contributes to harmony, and helps guitarists explore note selections, scales, and phrasing.
Playing drums is a lifelong pursuit offering skill enhancement and performance opportunities. It engages the brain. Drumming can improve academic performance, especially in math, by enhancing rhythm comprehension and understanding concepts like fractions and intervals.
New cello learners start with basic skills like posture, ear training, and music notation. Progression involves mastering scales, techniques, and complex pieces, improving coordination, confidence, and right-brain abilities. Lessons enhance skills for all students.
